A quiet day today starting with me sleeping in and blogging stuff, then going down to the pub for an awesome roast beef lunch with Yorkshire pudding and a pint for only 6.99...bargain. Then I had the sticky toffee pudding with custard. I planned to lose weight here and that may not happen. I've dealt with it by consoling myself with eating. I picked up the paper, headed home and promptly fell asleep, very content and happy to be inside out of the rain. Then when I woke up, I was very nearly late for the next show I had a ticket for which was Diane Spencer's "All Pervading Madness". The show was in the same room as Deanne Smith (called The Wee Room) and I think this may be my favourite room of the festival as it only holds about 40 people, so its quite intimate. Throughout this surprising show Spencer tells you about her varied and bizarre life experiences dressing up as Supergirl in a nightclub, bursting a blood vessel in her nose, about her internet dating experiences, about her super-hero alter-ego "The Haemo-goblin" (although I think I was the only person who laughed at this piece of genius), about things from her life that don't, on appearance alone, appear to have been possible from someone so innocent and sweet looking and well, gorgeous, this woman is gorgeous. I found it hard to take my eyes off her. Its lucky she has a sense of humour, because with what she has been through, a normal person might have decided that the universe was against them and given up a long time ago, but she manages to make all the TERRIBLE things hilarious. She frequently lulls you into a sense of comic security and then finger-blasts you right out of it again with something filthy, occasionally shocking even me, which is very, very rare. A great show, constantly surprising and brilliantly filthy.
